With spring in bloom and summer fast approaching the break in the weather comes as a welcomed relief for those of us that shared an experience in one of Chicago’s coldest winters on record. For many of us, this winter was spent bundled in the comfort of our homes and heated offices where we shared stories about the torturous walk from the train to our home or from our car to our office. The truth is, if those walks were long enough – they were brutal.
As I enjoyed the brisk walk in 52-degree weather to our offices today I thought about the landscape, leasing, management and construction team that truly endured this 2015 winter. A portfolio of over 1,600 homes and a production of 40+ redevelopments a month requires a lot of maintenance and a great deal of work. This winter we were able to make it through the management and production of these homes due greatly in part to the efforts of our field team who worked diligently and often into the early hours of the morning to ensure that sidewalks were plowed, pipes didn’t freeze and the heat in occupied homes stayed on.
It is with great humility and pride that I thank our crews in the field for all of their hard work this 2015 winter. It takes many people to keep our organization functioning at the highest levels and it is important to recognize the efforts of all of our contractors, employees and associates that help keep the MACK Companies businesses running smoothly.
For the MACK Landscape team, work beings at 5:00 AM year-round. This winter that meant our crews were out in -10-degree weather plowing snow at our 6 different commercial locations, shoveling sidewalks and salting the walkways. For the rentMACK service team work never really starts or stops, many service men have 24/7 on-call responsibility, during which they are prepared to deal with the 800+ phone calls that come in after hours every winter. Our Property Managers and Leasing Agents didn’t let the cold slow them down. Each agent and manager were out in the field ensuring the right residents found homes, and that our current residents had all that they needed. The construction crews for both MACK Estates and rentMACK work overtime every winter, needing to double back to projects constantly to ensure that the heat in a home is maintained at degree that will prevent pipes from freezing and monitoring that every home is winterized appropriately.
With a community of over 3,600 residents, an office staff of over 100 professionals and a demand for our redeveloped product, MACK Companies didn’t let the winter slow us down. I am incredibly grateful for all the hard work and dedication it took for our field team to get us through this historic winter. As brutal as the walks were from our cars to our heated offices, they would have been much more unbearable¬ had our parking lot not been plowed, our walkways salted and the security of knowing our residents and redevelopments were being handled by some of the industries’ hardest working individuals.
To Our Team:
Thank you to all the MACK Landscape, rentMACK service, leasing and management and the MACK Estates and rentMACK development teams. Your contribution to our organization, to our MACK Companies family, is both imperative to our business and invaluable to our culture.
